Onpro AG acquires Sulzer Burckhardt Vacuum Systems business

With effect per September 1, 2000 the Vacuum Systems business of Sulzer Burckhardt will be taken over by Onpro AG, Frenkendorf/BL, Switzerland. All ten Sulzer employees involved will be retained at the existing location in Basle. The parties have agreed not to reveal the transaction price.  

This divestiture represents a further step in the Sulzer "Performance" restructuring program. By transferring the vacuum systems activities to Onpro, Sulzer has managed to place what is no longer a core business in a promising new environment, thus avoiding redundancies.

Onpro plans to continue this business at the existing location in the form of a subsidiary known as NSB Gas Processing AG. Sulzer Burckhardt Vacuum Systems designs and produces liquid-ring vacuum/compression pumps and aggregates for the pharmaceuticals, chemical and CVD process industries. Sales for 1999 totalled roughly CHF 7 million. The ten people currently employed will all be taken over by NSB Gas Processing AG, and by year-end an additional two to four employees will be recruited. This acquisition not only enhances the product portfolio of Onpro, but also significantly expands the customer base.

Onpro is an engineering company specialized in the design and delivery of plant and machinery for the chemical, pharmaceuticals and petrochemical industries. For equipment manufacturing and installation, Onpro cooperates with selected European manufacturers. The company also has widely based experience in the global marketing of investment goods.

Sulzer Burckhardt, a Sulzer Industries company, is one of the world's largest manufacturers of reciprocating compressors. Products include labyrinth compressors, process compressors, hyper and standard high-pressure designs. Main customers are in the industrial gas and hydrocarbon processing markets, and the chemical industry. Sulzer Burckhardt sales totaled around CHF 200 million last year with 800 employees per year-end 1999, about 600 of whom in Switzerland.
